The cost of beer will rise next month as Lion Breweries and DB Breweries raise their prices to cover increases in excise tax and other costs.
Tap beer will go up by 3 per cent from June 1 and canned and bottled beer will go up by about 6.5 per cent.
With retailers also expected to take the opportunity to raise their margins, the increases are expected to take the price of a dozen beer on special from $12.95 to $13.95 - an 8 per cent increase.
DB said that at $12.95 consumers were paying the same price for beer as they were 10 years ago.
