A train has collided with a car on a South Island highway, leaving two people seriously injured.
A police spokeswoman said they were notified at about 2.30pm that a train had collided with a car just north of the Chesterfield Rd crossing on State Highway 6 (Kumara Junction Highway), Westland.
There were two occupants in the car and both sustained injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
A Southern Fire spokesman confirmed they attended with two trucks from Hokitika and one from Kumara.
