A woman missing in Taranaki has been found after spending two unplanned nights on Mt Taranaki.

She was being walked out of the bush shortly after midday, a police spokeswoman said.

Search and rescue teams had been searching for her today. She was reported missing about 7.30pm yesterday.

The 49-year-old was found wandering the mountain's Puniho Track and was described as being cold and wet but unharmed at 11.45am today.

She was last seen dropping her children at school on Wednesday morning.

Her car was found this morning at the base of Mt Taranaki, with a note saying she was tramping to Holly Hut.

Police found the woman's car at the end of Puniho Rd, Okato in the early hours of this morning, Fairfax reported.
