Police have released the name of the man who died after a crash at the Mountain Thunder motorcycle event in Methven yesterday.

He was Ruaraidh McLeod, 25, from Christchurch.

He was competing in an Easter street race when he crashed about 12.50pm. He suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

Organisers Methven Lions said they cancelled all remaining races after the crash.


They offered their sincere condolences to the family of the dead man.

The group is now working with the Christchurch police Serious Crash Unit.

The matter is now before the Coroner.
