A group of motorists that appeared to take their party to the road, swerving through traffic and throwing bottles out windows on Auckland's Southern Motorway, crashed into a barrier blocking off one southbound lane.
The crash on Auckland's Southern Motorway, earlier this afternoon, is likely to lead to some delays as the traffic backlog clears.
NZTA had around 1.30pm reported the left lane southbound was blocked just after Greenlane. The crash was cleared within 40 minutes.
A police spokeswoman said emergency services were alerted shortly after one to a car that was seen tailgating, cutting other motorists off and throwing bottles out of the window.
"Then the vehicle spun out and crashed," she said. "The occupants were seen attempting to get out."
The spokeswoman said there were also indications the vehicle had clipped another before it crashed into the barrier at around 1.20pm.
She believed two people had been taken to Auckland City Hospital, with two others transported together with the injured pair.
The extent of their injuries was currently unknown.
The police spokeswoman couldn't confirm exactly how many people had been in the car.
She said a decision into whether charges would be laid will follow later.
The car has been towed from the motorway and the lane cleared.
