An investigation is underway into the death of a 20-year-old New Zealand soldier in East Timor.
Private Dean Robert Johnston, from Christchurch, was found dead near the Obrigado Barracks, near Dili early this morning.
The United Nations are investigating, but the death is not believed to be the result of military action.

Forces New Zealand said early indications are that no one else was involved.
Private Johnston was with the National Command Element of the New Zealand contingent.
Defence Force chief, Air Marshal Bruce Ferguson, said he regretted the loss of any serviceperson's life.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family."
Private Johnston was based in Linton prior to deployment in East Timor as part of the 6th New Zealand Battalion Group.
Defence Minister Mark Burton said he was deeply saddened to learn of the death.
