A Nelson doorman who choked two patrons at a hotel until they were unconscious could have killed them, Nelson District Court has been told.
Carlos Vecovsky, 29, admitted two assault charges when he appeared in court yesterday.
At 2.20am on January 26, Vecovsky was working at a hotel when he became
concerned about the behaviour of six patrons.
Judge Paul Whitehead said Vecovsky head-butted one man. This led to a struggle and Vecovsky was pushed through a window.
One of the group intervened but Vecovsky put him in a choke hold, which rendered him unconscious. Vecovsky then put another man in a choke hold and he too became unconscious.
"A bouncer has no distinction to act violently or assault anybody else in this way. This means of control could have caused death," the judge said.
