New details have emerged about the final hours of David Cerven, the 21-year-old Slovakian shot by police in central Auckland last Sunday.
In a new appeal for witnesses, police said they wanted to hear from anyone who gave Mr Cerven a lift into the city from the North Shore earlier that day.
Mr Cerven left a Glenfield address about 4.30pm after advising associates he would 'hitch a ride' to the city, police said. He was in the city by 7.30pm.
"As part of our background inquiries and in order to be clear about David's movements on Sunday, we'd like to hear from anyone who he may have spoken to over the three hours between 4.30pm and 7.30pm," said Detective Inspector Kevin Hooper.
Mr Cerven called police from Myers Park at 7.23pm and was fatally shot there at 7.45pm.
"At the time of his death, David was wearing blue denim jeans and a blue and white checked shirt," Mr Hooper said.
It's possible that, at some time in the afternoon prior to him engaging with police, he was in possession of an orange high-visibility raincoat."
Investigators who've watched CCTV footage have established that several people were in Myers Park on Sunday afternoon and evening, including a man wearing a hooded jacket who may have had a conversation with Mr Cerven while sitting on a park bench.
