Motorist killed in 60m plunge down bank

A young man died when his car plummeted 60m down a bank in Cambridge early yesterday. His car failed to take a corner and hit a lamp-post before crashing down the bank on to a road about 5.05 am.

In another fatal accident, a 28-year-old woman died in a head-on collision between two cars on State Highway 1 near Otaki.

Two people in the other car escaped with minor injuries in the crash, which happened at 11.20 am. The highway was closed for 2 1/2 hours at Otaki River bridge.
