In three months Masterputt will be unrecognisable.
Redevelopment work began yesterday and project co-ordinator for the Masterton South Rotary Cedric Percy says he can't wait to see the final product.
"It's very exciting times for the Rotary.
"The most exciting part is that we've worked through so many themes to get it right
but we're satisfied that the final plans are going to be pretty good."
Masterton landscape architect Rachel Callaghan has designed the new course that will be extended towards the Kids Own Playground, he said.
"There will be a big path accessing the park down the south side and the whole theme will be based around a coastal idea with a lighthouse as well.
"There will also be grapes, rocks and the odd sheep scattered around to bring in a local theme."
About 12,000 people used Masterputt last year, which will be called Trust House Mini Golf once the upgrade is complete, Mr Percy said.
"The important line is the bit underneath that will say a Masterton South Rotary project.
"Rotary built the original Masterputt in 1979 and has operated it ever since, with Duncan Adair taking over the management about 10 years ago."
Rotary had planned to rebuild Masterputt and decided to work in with Masterton District Council when they heard about their rejuvenation plans for the whole park, he said.
"Masterton District Council has supported us for some time and Trust House has played a major part in making this upgrade go ahead."
Local patronage is very strong and that does bear in mind when looking at a possible charge increase, he said.
"We haven't specifically looked at a cost increase but inevitably we are a lot lower priced than other areas.
"However, Rotary is very aware that this is a community resource and at least half of the people that use it are local."
