A 25-year-old man has been remanded on bail with strict conditions after appearing in court over a fatal accident north of Oamaru last week.
In Invercargill District Court yesterday, Cam Paul Kennedy, 25, was charged with perverting the course of justice by removing all identification from and burning a vehicle,
failing to stop after a crash to render assistance and failing to report a crash involving the injury or death of a person, the Timaru Herald reported.
All charges relate to the death of 18-year-old motorcyclist Tom Fry, whose body was found near an intersection on State Highway 1 near Waimate in the early hours on May 13.
A Nissan Skyline car thought to have been involved in the crash was found a short time later burnt out and with its licence plates removed.
Police have also interviewed a woman about the incident but have not laid any charges against her yet.
Information gleaned from a forensic examination of the vehicle and public support led police to the vehicle's occupants, Senior Sergeant Colin Blackie said.
"However, we cannot discount the fact that there are other people or vehicles involved, or that there may be further arrests or charges in relation to the crash."
