The Electoral Commission is urging the thousands of eligible voters who are not enrolled to update their details, and says they can do so up until the last day before the election.
While the electoral roll is now closed for printing, those who are still to enrol -- about 7.3 per
cent of the total number of eligible voters -- have until July 26 to do so.
By the middle of June, there were 250,000 voters not enrolled. While that number has now decreased to 204,000, Electoral Enrolment Centre national manager Murray Wicks urged those people to make the effort.
"We're encouraging people to enrol as soon as possible so they can be sent voting information before election day," he said in a statement today.
"The outcome of the election affects all New Zealanders, including our children, so we're urging those yet to enrol, to do so to make their vote count."
Enrolment update forms were sent to every registered voter in May. Only those whose circumstances had changed, or who had not received the form had to get in touch with the centre to update their details.
Enrolment forms are available from PostShops, public libraries and local council offices, or voters can call 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 367656) or enrol online at www.elections.org.nz.
