Eagle-eyed Wairarapa police officers collared four alleged burglars after questioning the group during a routine traffic stop.
Vigilant police officers checking cars for road worthiness have stopped four burglars in their tracks.
Senior Sergeant Jamahl Glassey said as part of a national road safety campaign, police had set up a check point on Monday along South Belt checking cars and drivers.
Each car stopped was checked forroad-worthiness and drivers breath tested.
The officers stopped a car at about 2pm with four people inside, two youths and two young adults and soon realised they were on to a group of burglars.
While carrying out the safety check on the car they noticed electrical equipment that had been stolen from a burglary earlier in the day on Westbush Rd, Mr Glassey said.
"They were carrying out a random check point and stopping cars as part of the national campaign."
It was a fantastic result for the vigilant police officers, he said.
"The driver was dealt with on some traffic matters and then police located the stolen items in the back of the car as they carried out a safety check on the car."
