Ellerslie fairy time
Spring has arrived in Ellerslie, and with it the fairies. The Main Highway, between Ladies Mile and Arthur St, will be closed from 10.15am to 12.15pm on Saturday for the Ellerslie Spring Fairy Festival. Get the glitter on and get along there.
Hazardous waste
help
The Manukau Hazmobile, for the disposal of hazardous domestic waste, will be in the carpark in Lloyd Elsmore Park on Sir Lloyd Drive in Pakuranga from 10am to 2pm on Saturday. Representatives from Manukau City Council and the ARC will be on hand to supervise and answer questions.
Books, writers out west
Waitakere City celebrates books and writers in its Going West festival this weekend. Events include poetry readings from 6pm tomorrow in the Titirangi War Memorial Hall, a book fair on Saturday from 9am in the Titirangi Community Centre, and two performances of Tom Scott's play The Daylight Atheist at Titirangi Theatre in Lopdell House.
Cleaning up country
Clean Up New Zealand Week begins on Monday, and will be launched on Saturday in the Glen Innes Community Centre in Line Rd. A powhiri at 9am will be followed by a clean up in the local area, as well as a barbecue and games for the children. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Truly green thumb
Learn to be a "green gardener" at a free course on composting and worm farming at the Regional Botanic Garden in Hill Rd, Manurewa, at 1pm on Saturday. Phone (09) 482-1172 to register.
On Sunday you can attend an eco-friendly gardening course from 10am at the same venue.
Volcanic cone tour
