Police hunting a man after the brutal killing of his ex-partner in north Canterbury believe he may still be in the area.
Ross Simon Fraser has been missing since the discovery of the body of Jo-Anne Thompson, 46, in the bathroom of her Waiau home on February 16.
Neighbours called police after her two children, aged four and six, were found wandering outside the address.
Police said last night 43-year-old Fraser was thought to be still in the Waiau-Parnassus area and may be hiding out in the bush.
He was not believed to be armed but should not be approached by the public and any sightings reported to police.
Fraser was described as European, 1.7m tall, slim and with shoulder length scruffy hair.
Neighbours said the couple had an "on-again off-again" relationship.
