Speeds of up to 160 kilometres an hour were reached during a police pursuit in Auckland last night.
The incident started when a stolen car rammed a police vehicle in Quay St in the CBD. Several other patrols joined in the chase, which ended in Onehunga after about 15 minutes.
The Eagle helicopter was deployed and eventually the stolen car hit a power pole. Three people who ran off have since been arrested.
