If you have a spare $10,000 and are in the market for a 65-million-year-old fossilised dinosaur egg, you are in luck.
Hettie's Rock and Crystal Shop in Beckenham, Christchurch, has one in stock.
Owner Andrew Hodge said the egg, which he bought from a geologist in Australia, was the only one of
its type in New Zealand.
"It's the egg of the Chinese Tyrannosaurus rex called a tarbosaurus - a dinosaur 14m long, that lumbered aroundcentral Asia millions of years ago," hesaid.
The egg is covered in a 2.5mm shell, which has been coated in a stabiliser to prevent cracking.
Mr Hodge is confident the egg will be snapped up by a tourist or an avid collector.
Last year, he sold a nest of hadrosaur (duckbilled dinosaur) eggs to a Christchurch buyer for $9000.
