Crash on Hawke’s Bay Expressway
One person was taken to hospital in a moderate condition on Wednesday morning after a truck rear-ended a car on the Expressway near Kennedy Rd and Meeanee Rd.
Police were called to the incident around 11.20am, with Hato Hone St John sending one ambulance to the scene.
A police spokesperson said traffic was still moving slowly at midday Wednesday.
Police seeking information after alleged Hastings assault
A man was left with life-threatening injuries following an alleged assault in Hastings on Wednesday morning.
Police said one man suffered a serious head injury in the alleged assault, which occurred in the vicinity of Jellicoe St and Hood St at around 3am on Wednesday.
The patient has since been transported to Wellington Hospital and is undergoing surgery.
Police are appealing for more information and are asking anyone who witnessed the alleged assault or anyone who was in the Jellicoe St/Hood St area at the time to come forward.
Jellicoe St residents who may have relevant CCTV footage are also being asked to contact police by calling 105 or going online to https://www.police.govt.nz/use-105 and referencing file number 231220/1498.
Hastings subject to water restrictions earlier than expected
Water restrictions for Hastings were put in place earlier than initially expected due to increased water usage over the weekend.
As of Monday, Hastings was placed in Level 2 Waimārama Level 3. These restrictions were originally to be put into place on Wednesday. Napier is also currently subject to Level 2 restrictions.
At Level 2, hoses and sprinklers can only be used between 6am and 8am and 7pm and 9pm every second day: odd numbered homes on odd dates, even numbered homes on even dates.
The Level 2 restrictions apply to all homes on a public Hastings District Council supply, including small community supplies, except Waimārama.
For Waimārama residents, a Level 3 restriction means there is a full sprinkler ban, with only hand-held hoses able to be used on alternate days between 6am and 8am, and 7pm and 9pm.
Hastings District and Napier City Council will both be reviewing their watering programmes for parks and gardens in the same way that residents are being asked to.
Stabbing victim at Shani’s transferred to Christchurch
The victim of a stabbing at Shani’s Family Eatery and Bar in Taradale, Napier, last week is now in a stable condition since being transferred to a hospital in Christchurch.
A 24-year-old woman was charged for the stabbing that seriously injured a man in his 30s on Wednesday last week.
A Te Whatu Ora spokeswoman confirmed in a statement that the man had been transferred to Burwood Hospital in Christchurch and was in a stable condition.
A Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Hawke’s Bay spokeswoman had earlier said the man was discharged from Hawke’s Bay Hospital on Thursday morning.
The woman had been remanded in custody and was due to reappear in Napier District Court on Wednesday, January 17 on charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Man who died in Dannevirke crash named
A man who died in a motorcycle crash near Dannevirke on Friday last week was 59-year-old Brendon Pinfold of Roslyn, Palmerston North.
The incident happened about 2pm on Friday when a motorcycle with a rider and a pillion passenger collided with a car on the State Highway 2 Oringi North bridge over the Hawke’s Bay railway line, about 9km south of Dannevirke.
“Police extend our condolences to his friends and family at this difficult time,” a police spokesperson said.
Police said at the time one motorcyclist was killed and a passenger was critically injured and flown to Wellington Hospital. This person was in a stable condition as of Wednesday morning.
A truck that was not involved in the crash later got into difficulty on a diversion and its trailer overturned on the track, police said.
Woman seriously injured after car rolls down bank near Tangoio
A woman in her 70s was seriously injured early on Monday morning after a car carrying three people rolled down a 10-15-metre bank.
Police were called to the incident on Aropaoanui Rd near Tangoio about 1.35am where people were extracted from the damaged vehicle.
“One person suffered serious injuries and it appears they may have been helicoptered to hospital,” a police spokesperson said.
Police left the scene just after 5am.
A Hawke’s Bay Hospital spokesperson said on Monday that a woman in her 70s was in a serious condition.
Person injured in fatal crash moved out of ICU
One person flown to Wellington Hospital following a fatal crash on SH2 near Dannevirke on Friday afternoon is now in a stable condition in a ward, as at Monday.
That person was flown to Wellington in a critical condition after the crash, and was initially being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
Another person died in the crash which involved a car and a motorbike. The crash happened on the Oringi North overbridge.
Child critically injured in Hastings crash now stable
A 12-year-old flown to Starship Hospital in a critical condition after a Hastings crash that injured seven people last week is now stable.
The crash on Omahu Rd involved a seven-seater car and a truck according to police and was reported to emergency services at 3.27pm on Tuesday last week.
Of those injured in the crash, five were children between the ages of 5 and 15 while two were women in their 30s.
The other four children and two women at Hawke’s Bay Hospital were all in a stable condition as of Thursday last week.
Santa’s Workshop has returned to Hastings
You’d better not pout or cry because Santa has returned to Hastings, and he’s inviting children and adults into his impressive workshop as a special treat before Christmas.
Hastings District Council and creative arts studio Vesica Aotearoa have partnered to bring the man in red’s base of operations back to Albert Square for a free community event, featuring a six-minute animated light display.
The 5-metre high facade shows a two-story factory that magically transforms into Santa’s Workshop once the projected animation begins.
Local talents such as artist and architect Nick Wilkey, animator Isaac Walton, and composer Tom Pierard have joined forces under the guidance of Ant van Dorsten of Vesica, project manager and creative director, to spearhead the project.
Also on offer will be an interactive experience with options to paint and decorate wooden Christmas trees.
The event will run from December 15-25, with the animation playing from sundown to late.
