Harcourts win narrowly over Legends

There were no major upsets when matches in Netball Wairarapa's premier one competition continued at the Colombo Road courts in Masterton on Saturday, but practically all results were much closer than anticipated.

Defending champions Harcourts were expected to coast to victory over Carterton New World Legends but, as it happened, they got home by just four goals, 50 to 46.

Likewise Pioneer Blue started warm favourites against Carterton New World Lynx but had to work hard for their 35-30 success and the Battle of the Colleges between St Matthew's and Makoura also went right to the wire, St Matthew's grabbing the spoils 39-36.

The most comfortable premier one victory of the day went to Wairarapa College A who were, in fact, expected to have a battle royal with NZCU Baywide Gladstone. However, it was the students who called the tune and and they ran out decisive 49-37 winners.
