Greytown stake claim for final

Turkey Red Greytown and Red Star will meet in the grand final of Cricket Wairarapa's Bidwell Cup senior men's inter-club competition this weekend.

The two sides clashed in the last of the preliminary round games on Saturday and Sunday with Red Star already guaranteed a place in the decider and Greytown needing a first innings win to overhaul Flight Centre Lansdowne for the other spot.

And Greytown got their wish, scoring 270 and then dismissing Red Star for 193 in reply.

An unbeaten 99 by Jackson Kibblewhite highlighted the Greytown batting effort and other useful knocks came from Paul Lyttle (62) and Tim Lucas (41).

Bowling for Red Star, Peter Sigvertsen took 3-40 and Bob Beddingham 3-45.

Greg Todd returned from Central Stags duty to score 46 not out for Red Star and Sean Jarvis made 31.

Left arm medium pacer Quentin McKenna did the damage for Greytown, finishing with 4-56 from 56 overs, and Jacob Smith took 3-34.
