Flood of submissions on Hamilton's prostitution bylaw

Hamilton City Council has been inundated with more than 1000 submissions on its controversial prostitution bylaw.

City strategic manager Mike Theelen said people were delivering submissions in piles late on Monday and he thought the final tally would be about 1200.

The draft bylaw allows private sex workers in residential areas and two existing suburban brothels to continue to operate.

Mr Theelen said the submissions appeared to reflect the opposition to the bylaw that was shown at three public meetings. The bylaw hearings begin on August 25.
