The fire service says it was a small fire which hasn't caused any major damage.

Six fire crews were sent to Kumeu Rugby Football Club in West Auckland after smoke was seen.

Fire Service shift manager Scott Osmond said earlier that smoke was seen on the first floor of the two-storey building in Riverhead.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
