The Cross Country Rentals Eketahuna Women's Rugby Team were "cleaned out" when they played a home game against Wainuiomata last weekend.
Coach Sid Tatana said the team did well, although they lost 38 points to nothing.
Key player Shakira Baker was away training for the NZ Sevens team, and Tatanasaid her absence was notable but may not have been key to the final result.
"I don't think it made much difference," he said. "We might have been a little bit better."
He said Wainuiomata played a good game, although Eketahuna did well in the line-outs and scrums.
"Everywhere else we got well and truly cleaned out," he said.
Tatana said the game has been a wake-up call to the team, who will have to get it together when they play Old Boys University in Wellington this weekend.
"From here on out, I think if we want to beat those teams over there we've got to be at our best," he said. "It's going to be a battle."
