The East Timor house in which five journalists, including New Zealander Gary Cunningham, sheltered before dying at the hands of Indonesian troops has become a shrine.
The so-called Balibo Flag House, in which the newsmen spent their last days, has been restored and turned into a community centre for local East Timorese as well as a memorial to the five, who were shot dead as they filmed invading Indonesian forces on October 16, 1975.
