Police have launched an appeal to trace the driver involved in a hit-and-run that killed a father-of-two.
Christopher James Watson, of Parnell, died when he was struck by a car on the Northern Motorway early on Saturday.
Sergeant Stu Kearns said police had no idea why the 38-year-oldwas on the motorway.
It is understood he had been to visit his former wife in Albany before the accident.
About 3.25am, he was hit by a car travelling north between the Greville Rd and Oteha Valley Rd off-ramps. The vehicle failed to stop or report the accident.
Police were only notified when the following car with a family inside hit Mr Watson, who was lying in the road. He died of multiple injuries.
Sergeant Kearns said police were looking for the driver of a Mitsubishi Lancer, manufactured between 1989 and 1991. The four-door sedan or five-door hatchback would have damage to the driver-side indicator, possibly the windscreen, and would be missing the driver-side wing mirror.
Police want anyone who was driving that stretch of road between 3.15am and 3.30am to contact them.
They are also urging the driver to come forward.
"It would have been dark at that time of night and there is no lighting at this spot," said Sergeant Kearns.
"The driver is unlikely to have seen Mr Watson and it may well be that there is no blame attributable."
