Donations sought for grieving parents after Easter crash killed two children

A Givealittle page has been set up for parents who lost both their young sons in an Easter Weekend crash.

On Good Friday, 4-year-old Arteen Mosaferi, and Radeen Mosaferi, who was 2 months old, died after a crash between two cars and two truck-and-trailer units on the Desert Rd near Waiouru.

Arteen died at the scene, and Radeen died at Starship Hospital on Sunday, April 1 from his injuries.

Their mother, Dr Mohadeseh Sharifi, was critically injured and their father, Siamak Mosaferi, received moderate injuries.

Hamilton company Stiles and Hooker, for which Mosaferi is a structural engineer, has since created a fundraising page for the couple.

The page said Sharifi was now in a stable condition, however she was likely to be in hospital recovering from her injuries for well over a month. Mosaferi was by her side recovering also.

The company's operations manager wrote, "Although we continue to offer Sia and his wife support, there isn't a lot we can do to mend their broken hearts.

"We have chosen to create this page in hope that we can raise some funds so that when they are ready, they will not be faced with additional financial burdens that come with such tragedies.

"Your donations will go to the most appreciative, kind and loving people that are suffering beyond comprehension."

The page has currently raised just over $6000, which will cover the couple's lost income while they both recuperate and contribute towards funeral, medical expenses, and a replacement vehicle.

Any surplus money will be donated to Starship Hospital.

Mosaferi and Sharifi migrated to New Zealand in 2009.

Sharifi graduated with a master of science in chemical engineering from Sharif University of Technology in Iran in 2007, and continued her studies at the University of Auckland, gaining a doctorate of philosophy studies in chemical engineering in 2012.

In 2016 she began working as a scientist with the dairy foods team at AgResearch in Hamilton.

Mosaferi completed his master of engineering at Auckland University in 2013, before starting as a graduate structural engineer at Stiles and Hooker Architects + Engineers in Hamilton in 2014.

The family is understood to have been heading to Wellington for the Easter break with friends when the crash with the truck occurred.
