Police inquiries this weekend are expected to determine whether a 26-year-old man will face further charges relating to the death of a teenage girl in Hastings.
Karen Merle Nant, 16, died in Hawke's Bay Hospital on Thursday night.
A 26-year-old man was remanded in custody and without plea when he appearedin the Hastings District Court yesterday, charged with assault.
Granted interim name suppression, he will make a second appearance on the charge on Wednesday.
Police today continued inquiries in and around the former Ongaonga woman's home in Avenue Road East and were also considering results from a post mortem examination by a specialist police pathologist in Wellington yesterday.
Hastings CIB head Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Wilkinson said police were not looking for anyone else.
Ms Nant, originally from Ongaonga, in Central Hawke's Bay, had been living in Hastings for two or three years.
Mr Wilkinson said she was taken to hospital by her boyfriend and a neighbour and died later.
"We're still talking to all the people who had something to do with (the incident) and friends and relatives of the victim's family," Mr Wilkinson said.
"Our investigation will hopefully reveal whether further charges will be laid. We won't be making any major decisions until next week."
