DISCOVERY of a victory cup during a shift to the new Wairarapa Hospital after a decade locked away in an emergency room cupboard has this year revived the annual hospital revue evening.
"The cup was won by an emergency room team last time the revue was held. Since the cup resurfaced it was decided that things had settled enough since the shift to revive the revue and allow the staff to let their hair down again," Wairarapa Hospital spokeswoman Brigitte Marulli de Barletta said.
The resurrected entertainment titled Wairarapa Idle Hospital Revue 2007 will feature 18 competing teams of Wairarapa health professionals and hospital staff in a show running from 7.30pm at Lakeview School tomorrow night, she said.
There are limited seats to the evening of light-hearted skits and medical burlesque, she said, with stage lighting and a professional sound system expected to raise the level of performance and entertainment value.
She said there is also a supper provided and entry is by way of a gold coin donation with proceeds going toward Honiara National Referral Hospital maternity unit in the Solomon Islands.
"Teams will be competing from the wider medical community with district nurses, aged-care staff, and GP surgeries all having a go.
"There will be a lot of in-house stuff but then that is to be expected when a whole lot of doctors and nurses get together, I suppose."
The Revue Cup will be awarded to the winning team on the night, she said, which will be decided by a panel of judges traditionally drawn from the ranks of senior hospital staff.
