College hires professionals to ensure student safety

A Nelson college says hiring professionals to run school trips and ensure student safety has reduced stress levels in teachers.

Principals have expressed concern about law changes that they fear may hold them personally liable for accidents on school trips.

Nayland College contracted adventure company Vertical Limits to organise some school trips this year.

Principal Charles Newton said sharing the responsibility with trained professionals had reduced the stress for teachers.
