Charge amended in Bourne case

Queenstown rally driver Mike Barltrop, charged over the death of fellow competitor Possum Bourne, faced a slightly amended charge when he appeared in the Queenstown District Court yesterday.

Barltrop, 38, faced a charge of driving at a speed that was dangerous to the public and thereby caused Bourne's death.

He had previously been charged with dangerous driving causing death.

He entered no plea and was remanded on bail to reappear in the same court on October 13.

Bourne died in Dunedin Hospital 10 days after suffering serious head injuries in the April 18 collision.
