The house has not been valued, and Professionals do not have an auction estimate, but other houses in the area tend to sell around the high $300,000 mark.
Wellington's old Ronald McDonald House for sick children was pulled down last year because of leaky building problems and a new one had to be built from scratch.
With funding for the new house always going to be a struggle for the charity, house builders Milestone Homes came up with the idea. "We saw the Ronald McDonald House was about $1 million short, so we thought it would be a really neat idea to jump in and build a house for cost, with all profits going to the new house," Milestone Homes Wairarapa managing director Gareth Norris said.
"Our company has been in Wairarapa for 35 years, so we thought it was time to give something back."
He said building consent for the project was granted only four weeks after the initial idea was floated, while building started just a week after that.
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom house with double garage will come fully-finished, with everything except curtains and furniture.
An auction listing on Trade Me had more than 11,000 views yesterday.
Ronald McDonald House Wellington chief executive Lesley Slieker said the idea came after a transportable house was built in Petone last year for the same purpose.
"We're really over the moon to receive such support from Milestone Homes and people in Wairarapa," she said.
"It's a great idea on their part, and it's really nice to see the Wairarapa community coming together."
An open day is onsite on April 14 from 2pm-5pm with face painting, a bouncy castle and a sausage sizzle, and every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday thereafter from 2pm-4pm. The house is to be auctioned on May 5 at 2pm.
