Cameron House damage cleaned up

It was all hands on deck cleaning up Cameron Community House at the weekend.
Vandals struck the community-funded centre early in the New Year, splattering the walls, carpet and furniture with paint from their own shelves.
Cameron Community House co-ordinator Tere Torea said the centre over the years has often taken in community workers and when the probation officer found out about the vandalism he immediately offered to help with a working bee.
"We're very appreciative of the work the PD guys did.
"They did a fantastic job and even cleaned up the grounds and mowed the lawns for us as well."
Mr Torea said all the furniture and carpet was ruined and three trailer-loads of materials were taken to the dump.
"We're going to have to repaint the walls and I'm looking at talking with probation to see if the guys can do that as well."
Donations or funding for furniture is the next step towards reopening the centre, he said.
"It's just a case of starting all over again and getting back to business as usual."
Police have not caught any of the vandals involved in the attack on the community centre.
Mr Torea said members of the community centre were saddened by the vandalism but the repair work done by the community workers has left everybody feeling "really rapt".
