Burns baby stable

A baby put in a burning fireplace in a Remuera house this week remained in a critical but stable condition at Middlemore Hospital last night.

The girl, who is nearly 4 months old, suffered the injuries on Wednesday night.

The baby's mother, aged 28, has appeared in court on an assault charge and has interim name suppression.
