Appliance manufacturer Breville has recalled two models of kettle today over fears they may cause scalding.
HWI New Zealand, which markets the brand, recalled the SK20 and SK25 models of Smart Kettle because of a risk the handle may become detached.
Brett O'Neill general manager of HWI New Zealand told NZPA the company was "very concerned" about the risk.
"Customer safety is paramount," he said.
Breville has sold the model since 1998. The company has asked customers to stop using the models immediately and contact the company to arrange a free inspection and handle replacement.
