Copies of a slim volume on the former Solway Speedway in Masterton were flying sideways out the door at an official launch in the town on Saturday.
Speedway fanatic Terry Beresford, 74, had a brakeless speed machine on display at Hedleys Booksellers on Saturday and signed copies of the booklet -
Wide Open! The Solway Speedway - which was published last month after years of research by author and Kiwi speedway historian, Alan Batt.
Mr Beresford and his old riding buddy Ivan Cartmell, 72, had in 1969 co-founded the now-defunct Penlee Speedway in Norfolk Rd near Masterton after close associations at Solway, which closed in the late 70s after almost 20 years of operation. Both men still ride their machines at a lime track Mr Cartmell constructed at his Carterton farm.
The pair admit an obsession with the motorsport that neither has yet laid down and both are now awaiting a similar volume on the history of Penlee Speedway that Mr Batt has promised to write.
