Bashford a popular winner at Axemen?s Club carnival

Three current New Zealand representatives competed at the Masterton Axemen's Club's summer carnival last Saturday and Sunday.
Shane Jordan of Taupo, Stephen Knowles of Napier and Aiden Strother, who is a member of both the Otaki and Masterton clubs, faced stern opposition from competitiors from as far afield as the United States.
Local axemen, Warren Robinson and the father-and-son combination of Dave and Neil Bashford also featured prominently with Dave Bashford scoring a popular victory in the jigger competition on Saturday and also taking out the Kingi Peneha Memorial underhand chop.
The graded Hunting and Fishing standing chop championship completed a busy programme with national rep Jordan taking the honours from Otaki's Patrick Barrett.
