A baby has been taken from a Hamilton property to Waikato Hospital in a serious to critical condition and police are investigating what happened at the property.
Emergency services were called to the property in Hamilton East shortly after 11:35am.
Waikato Field Crime Manager, Acting Detective Inspector Mark Greene said it was too early to speculate what happened at the address, but police were investigating.
"On arrival a baby, believed to be aged 8-9-months old was found to be in a serious to critical condition and was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance, accompanied by the baby's mother.
An ambulance spokesman said the baby was male and suffered head injuries.
"A 32-year-old man from the address is currently assisting Police with our enquiries and at this point in time it is a case of working to establish what has occurred."
Mr Greene said the address is currently under guard to ensure the integrity of the scene to allow for a forensic examination.
"Obviously its too early to speculate on what has occurred here today but what I can say is domestic violence is something that afflicts all classes of society and anyone who finds themselves in domestic related stress should seek help either through Police or the many agencies dedicated to helping in this field.
"The first step is the hardest, find a friend or family member you can trust and ask for help."
