It became slightly more expensive to live in Auckland and Wellington last year but the cities are still relatively cheap compared to others in the developed world, a survey has found.
The Economist Intelligence Unit's latest worldwide cost of living survey rates Auckland and Wellington at the 101st most expensive citiesin the developed world - the same position they held last year.
The survey said that because of relatively high inflation and stronger currency, New Zealand and Australian cities had become slightly more expensive since last year.
Sydney and Melbourne were ranked 64 and 74 respectively.
Japanese cities Tokyo and Osaka remained the world's most expensive cities and Oslo in Norway rose to third place in the rankings, pushing Hong Kong to fourth.
While London dropped a couple of places from a year ago to seventh it was still the most expensive city in the European Union.
The most expensive city in the United States, New York, dropped out of the top 10 and was now the 11th most expensive city to live in.
All EU cities were comparatively more expensive as the currency strengthened and prices rose during the changeover to the euro currency.
The survey compares prices and products in 134 cities around the world.
