Police were today continuing their hunt for an armed robber who stole ten of thousands of dollars worth of jewellery from an Auckland store.
The robbery happened at Walker and Hall Jewellers on Broadway, in inner city Newmarket, at 10.30am yesterday, when a man entered the store with a knife.
He orderedtwo staff and two customers to the back of the shop, before demanding rings, earrings and a box containing cash be handed over.
The man put the items in a bright blue canvas or nylon knapsack and rode off along Broadway towards Khyber Pass Rd on a mountain bike.
The offender was described as Caucasian, about 1.8m tall, of average build and with tattoos on his left wrist.
He wore a black woollen balaclava and motorcycle helmet on his head.
He was also heavily dressed in a black fisherman's knit jersey, a black cotton twill suit-style jacket, black jeans and black woollen gloves.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Saunders said the man would have been conspicuous in having that much clothing on during a warm, sunny day.
Members of the public who saw someone dressed that way dumping a bicycle or getting on to a motorcycle or into another type of vehicle should call the Auckland City Crime Squad.
Mr Saunders said police also wanted to speak to a man seen in the same shop at the same time last week.
