The Martinborough Hotel has joined an elite club of Australasian boutique hotels, putting it in the same company as the widely acclaimed New Zealand hotels, Point Lake Rotorua, and Peppers Hotel du Vin, near Auckland. The newly named Peppers Martinborough Hotel has joined the Peppers Retreats & Resorts collection of
"indulgent escapes".
"We are delighted to welcome such a historic and charming hotel into the group," said Peppers managing director Rolf Krecklenberg.
"Peppers Martinborough Hotel is a fantastic edition to the collection, and a particularly good fit with our other historic wine country properties such as Peppers Convent Hunter Valley," says Mr Krecklenberg.
Martinborough Hotel owner Mike Laven says the move to join the group will suit the hotel and its situation within the Martinborough wine region.
"With Peppers' strength in Australia, we are looking forward to welcoming many more Australian guests to the region," Mr Laven said.
"We are also excited about joining a group with such a strong background in wine tourism. Peppers launched in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales over 20 years ago, and has gone on to launch retreats in several other well known wine regions, so the brand couldn't be a better fit with our hotel," he says.
The Martinborough Hotel dates back to 1882 and was renovated in 1996. It has 10 rooms that open out on to the first floor verandah while the six ground floor rooms overlook the rose-filled hotel garden.
Peppers has a self-drive itinerary that includes some of New Zealand's visitor high spots. The list will now include Wairarapa.
