Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock — "the Rock Hudson and Doris Day of our time" — play up to their screen images in the sort of romantic comedy that Hollywood made many times in the 30s, 50s and 60s.

She is the screwball lawyer who wants to save her New York neighbourhood from the developers. He is the playboy property developer. He wants a new lawyer. She takes the job so she can stop him bowling her community centre. He can't stand her and she can't stand him but ... stop me when you think you've heard this before.
