Yes, it's got a Kiwi in a leading role — Martin Henderson — but no, it's not part III of that series.
In this Hollywood remake of the Japanese cult classic, Ringul, Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive) plays Rachel, a single mother/ journalist who hears
about several high-school pupils who have died after watching an underground video. Before they can rewind the tape, the phone rings and a mysterious voice tells the viewer they will be dead in a week.
To research her story, Rachel gets her hands on the flick and ... oh, you guessed. The phone rings, and she has a week to find out where the tape came from, who is in it and how a video can make people die (she should try researching this column). Superior horror movie.
DVD features: movie (115min); short film by director Gore Verbinski that reveals more secrets about the mystery.
