When Grace's husband falls, jumps or is pushed out of a plane Grace discovers there's a downside to her life in the Cornish village of St Isaacs, her country home, garden and role as the local grande dame.
Everyone in town except Grace (Brenda
Blethyn) knew her husband had a mistress in London and that he'd spent all their money and borrowed more.
Matthew, the gardener (Craig Ferguson, who co-wrote the movie), has an idea. Matthew also works at the vicarage, where he has a few struggling marijuana plants. Grace suggests moving them into her greenhouse for better light and food, and soon the pair are raising enough dope to pay the bills and more.
If only they could sell it. In her best white summer suit Grace goes to London to find a market. She meets a low-level drug dealer, Vince (Bill Bailey), who realises he's out of his depth, and a higher-level drug dealer, Jacques (Tcheky Karyo).
Nice idea that bowls along quite happily for the first hour but when it's crying out for a good ending, everything goes up in a puff of smoke.
