We've spotted some strange similarities between this Michael Bay-Jerry Bruckheimer epic and their last one, the save-the-world comet-buster Armageddon, and not just because they both star Ben Affleck. (Warning: contains plot points which may spoil the movie for you).
1. Both feature raven-haired women with alarmingly rouged lips - Kate Beckinsale vs Liv Tyler.
2. Both have love scenes in hangars - Affleck and Liv Tyler using a space shuttle rocket nozzle for a nuzzle vs Josh Hartnett and Beckinsale in a parachute hangar (due to wartime shortage of silk sheets).
3. Both feature wise men in leg callipers - Billy Bob Thornton's Nasa genius vs Jon Voight's President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
4. Both have prolonged scenes of men in their skivvies getting inoculations in the butt.
5. Both have scenes of men in uniform walking in slow motion across air base tarmacs.
6. Both seem "inspired" by the Stanley Kubrick's Cold War comedy Dr Strangelove's famous ride-the-bomb scene with Steve Buscemi referring to it in Armageddon and Pearl Harbor's trailer shot which follows a Japanese bomb all the way to the deck of the USS Arizona.
7. Both use the term "suicide mission" quite a lot.
8. Both end with one character making the ultimate sacrifice for another.
9. Both have dreadful songs over the end credits - Aerosmith's Don't Want to Miss A Thing vs Faith Hill's There You'll Be.
