LOS ANGELES - Legendary Hungarian-born actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, famed for her rich husbands and calling everyone "Darling," underwent surgery for a leg infection, her husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, said.
The prince said his wife, star of such films as "Moulin Rouge," "Lili" and "Touch of Evil,"was taken to Cedars-Sinai hospital Monday night and operated on for two hours on Tuesday morning.
Gabor, whose various ex-husbands include Paris Hilton's great-grandfather, hotel chain founder Conrad Hilton, is believed to be in her late 80s, though some biographical sources list her age as 90.
Doctors are hopeful that the operation would prove successful and that her leg infection had not spread to the bone, her husband said.
"She was in great pain," the prince told Reuters in a telephone interview.
Gabor, one of three glamorous sisters who stole the Hollywood limelight in the 1950s and '60s, was forced to use a walker after being injured in a 2002 auto accident and suffered a stroke in 2005.
In a widely publicised incident in 1989, she slapped a Beverly Hills police officer who had pulled her over for a traffic violation. She was ordered to serve a brief stint in jail.
