Dark Netflix comedy Dead To Me renewed for second season

It's been confirmed dark Netflix comedy Dead To Me will live on.

The series, created by Liz Feldman and starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, has been renewed for a second season after attracting rave reviews from both critics and viewers.

Dead To Me tells the story of a sarcastic widow (Applegate) determined to solve her husband's recent hit-and-run murder who is befriended by free spirit Judy (Cardellini) who's dealing with her own tragic loss.

The two women first meet at a support group and — despite their polar opposite personalities — bond over bottles of wine and a shared love for The Facts of Life.

James Marsden, Ed Asner and Brandon Scott also appear on the show.

Dead To Me premiered last month and currently holds an impressive score of 87 per cent on ratings website Rotten Tomatoes.

According to Feldman, the new season will be all about the friendship between Jen and Judy, which is now a "very complicated dynamic".

"What I wanted to do was create a situation where they're forced together, and they need each other now in some ways more than they did at the beginning of season one," Feldman said.

Season two will premiere in 2020.
