There have been rumours for weeks, but finally we have confirmation: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are officially back on.

Country music queen Dolly Parton, who is Cyrus's godmother, said she was ecstatic to hear the pair had reunited after splitting in 2013.

"I was really happy when I heard they'd gotten back together, because I know that seemed to be a big heartache for both of them when that happened," Parton told Entertainment Tonight.

"That's good that they're back together."

The rumour mill was set spinning over the new year, with fans posting photos of the couple enjoying the Falls Festival together in Byron Bay.

Cyrus, 23 was then snapped in January wearing an engagement ring.

During their separation in July 2014, Hemsworth, now 26, said he and Cyrus would "always be best friends" and had "an instantaneous and powerful connection".

Parton said the young lovers could learn a thing or two from her partnership with husband Carl Dean.

The couple will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

"We've just always been great friends," said Parton.

Parton added Cyrus was "a gifted girl" who would continue to defy her critics.
