Rock music producer Phil Spector is unlikely to face a new trial on charges of killing a US actress before early next year, one of his lawyers told the Los Angeles Times.
"It would take at least six months for any lawyer to get ready," said Spector's
lawyer Christopher Plourd. "This is a very complicated, serious homicide case." A mistrial was declared last week after the jury deadlocked, saying it could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether Spector killed Lana Clarkson in February 2003, despite a clear majority believing he was guilty.
At least one of Spector's lawyers, Roger Rosen, has said he will not take on a new trial, and Plourd has said he does not know if he will be retained by Spector, who has already hired 10 different lawyers since 2003.
