KEY POINTS:
Actor Shia LaBeouf's craving for nicotine led to his arrest in Chicago in November, the star told David Letterman on the Late Show.
The 21-year-old, who stars opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, ended up in custody in "the drunk tank" for refusing to leave a Walgreen's store. Charges were later dropped.
He said he was drunk and preoccupied with a pimple on his forehead. He visited the store several times, buying pimple cream, but left twice without the cigarettes he had gone for. On his third visit a security guard put him in plastic handcuffs, said LaBeouf, calling himself a "moron".
LaBeouf was charged with misdemeanour criminal trespassing and his smiling mug shot was splashed across the internet. What did he learn from the ordeal? "Drinking and driving is one thing, but drinking and shopping ... it's just as bad," he said.
