His new single Not Like Us debuted the top of the Billboard chart, and doxes Drake’s Toronto home.
Industry beef has proved sizzling - and profitable - with the news Billboard’s much-watched Hot 100 chart has been topped by Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed new single Not Like Us, which hasalready broken streaming records.
Not Like Us is also getting attention for other reasons, namely its place in the ongoing scrap between Lamar and Drake, which has resulted in multiple diss tracks from both artists.
The song details ongoing allegations Lamar has levelled at Grammy-winner Drake, including sexual misconduct and Lamar labelling him a “certified paedophile” for his alleged inappropriate behaviour with minors. Drake is also labelled a “coloniser” for appropriating the work, and street credit, of other artists. Drake has denied these claims.
It’s Lamar’s fourth number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and he’s had 15 songs reach the top 10. It’s also the fourth diss track the artist has directed at Drake, released only a day after the last one, meet the grahams.
Drake’s diss track Family Matters - which includes mentions of Lamar and his partner, The Weeknd, Rick Ross, Metro Boomin and A$AP Rocky - debuted at number seven on the Hot 100.
The two feuding artists have been making headlines as tensions spill over from their song lyrics.
There was a drive-by shooting outside Drake’s home - the cover art for Not Like Us features an edited Google Maps image of Drake’s Toronto residence - and at least three intruders have reportedly tried to break into the property.
Drake issued a plea to media, addressing Canadian news organisation CP24: “Can we discuss the chopper flight times over the house, ‘cause I won’t lie, I’m trying to sleep. Anytime after 3pm works great for me.”
